I’ve been practicing intentional rest this month. My daily routine is work, school, and business leaving little time for planned deliberate rest. To be clear, I am not complaining, I am in the season of planting seeds for future fruit and know that it requires putting in the work. What I want is to maximize my free time in a way that rejuvenates and energizes me so I can keep going. Intentional rest is not just getting enough sleep each night. On top of a good night’s sleep, finding time for things that do not require me to use a lot of brain power or exert too much energy is restful. For instance, I slept in this morning until 9 (LAWD it felt good), made some green tea with lemon, and walked Ginger, our new puppy before my 10 am coaching call which lasted two hours, and could have gone longer, because of great conversation. After my call, I did some Hot Yoga, cleaned up, started laundry washed my hair, and showered. Sometimes adulting is relaxing for me. When I’m home a clean space and clean linen are key to creating a relaxing environment.
I’ve learned that resting is not only for the weekend after a week of hard work. Rest can go up on a Tuesday and be as effective as a Saturday or Sunday. The day is almost up, and I could use one more day of rest, however, I am feeling relaxed and centered to finish the work week productively.
I am very grateful to be able to focus on myself without distraction and get the rest I need. There was a time when I didn’t take care of myself, affecting every aspect of my life negatively. The value I place on intentional rest is priceless and I only want to get better at this practice. I hope you can do the same.
Lata!
